Sigune is a female side character in the Parsival saga, whom the knight meets three times in his life.
The inability to let go is captured in a very strong visual image: Sigune drags the body of her dead husband throughout her life, accompanied by bitter weeping.
At one point Sigune tells Parsival that she knows what his pain is like, because she has let life pass her by, because she has been a prisoner of something she cannot reach until she wants to reach it.
